Stephen Hill 1a Concert Classical Guitar

My Hill 1a Guitars are hand built by myself alone. They carry the full personality conceived by my hands, and are the outcome of over 25 years of painstaking experience. The guitars are dated, signed, numbered and often have names given to them as each guitar is an individual creation.

I use the best timbers, selected for their acoustic and visual qualities. Currently I am phasing out Brazilian Rio Rosewood as this is becoming increasingly hard to find, very expensive and troublesome in the exporting. I use now Indian, Madagascan, Amazon and other rosewoods,  as well as sustainably produced (FSC) cedar (cedrela odorata) for necks.

I offer the traditional fan strutted ‘Granada’ Guitar using spruce or cedar and rosewood, the ‘Lattice’ braced Concert Guitar (cedar and rosewood) and I french polish the guitars by hand using pumice, shellac and alcohol. We also offer a limited production of Hill 2a Guitars.
