I have been producing
fine guitars since 1985, following a short apprenticship as a cabinet
maker. Greatly inspired by Flamenco music I journeyed to Spain to
study with Paco Pena, Juan Serrano, El Carbonaro and others, having
built my first Flamenco guitar. Being a fluent spanish speaker,
I travelled extensively around Spain, particularily in Andalucia
and spent much of my time visiting the workshops of Manuel Reyes,
Antonio Marin Montero , Manuel Diaz and other great guitar makers,
absorbing the essential Spanish elements of guitar making.
Eventually returning to England I set
up shop making Classical and Flamenco guitars, making in relative
isolation which I believe has helped form the unique sound of my
guitars.
Little by little my instruments became
known, with better and better players making their way to my door
and some happy years later I have established a healthy order book
fullfilling my orders to clients in the UK and around the globe
, manage many restorations aided by my other guitar making collegues
and also find time to import and retail selected spanish made student
and professional instruments.
In August 2004 I made a move to Spain,
setting up workshop in a small coastal town called La Herradura
in Granada province, the spiritual home of Andres Segovia and the venue for the International Segovia competition. I also now teach intensive master guitarbuilding courses that are proving to be very popular giving budding makers the chance to learn in a professional spanish environment.
Visitors
to the workshop, clients or players using hill guitars over the years include amongst many others; Juan
Falu, Juan Martin, Paco de Lucia, John Mills, Paul Gregory, Gary
Ryan, Philip John Lee, Paco Fernandez, Emilio Maya, Manus Noble,
Vini Reilly,
John Feeley, Esteban Antonio, Ricardo de la juana, Barry Mason, Francisco Antonio, Stuart French, Gilbert
Biberian, Juan Ramirez, Allan Neave , Francesco Mariani and Arthur
Brown !
I now spend most of the year here with visits to the uk to see all my clients and guitars!
